Other names for Elnora were Haferland, Helena, Haverland, Elnora, Heilman, Elnora, Hoverland, Laura and nee: Miller, Leona.

  General Notes:

There are many uncertainties surrounding this woman - including her names. Her various nee: AKA's were given by the 3 blood daughters of JMZ in their respective marriage records.

Family lore source Myron G Klotz provided much of the information about Elnora, listing her as nee: Haverland, first married to Richard HEILEMAN / HEILMANN and w/daughter Annie; then to MILLER and w/daughter Augustina; then migrating from Germany to Wisconsin as a widow with 2 little daughters; then married John Michael ZELLHOEFER, they having 3 more daughters.

There IS a marriage record in LDS IGI showing a marriage of Elnora HEILMAN b.1823 to Michael ZELLHOEFER and with a daughter Lottie b.1862 in WI. That's enough to realize SOME connection to the Heilman surname, but no marriage date/place is given, and source is only "submitted by a member of the LDS Church", so "that's all, folks!"

Perhaps Elnora was never wed to Heilmann, but rather that was her maiden name? After exhausting searches nothing which might match a Haverland family is found to Dec 2003. It seems most unusual that Elnora would have come to America as a widow with "2 daughters and no husband" as per MGK. Perhaps Elnora migrated WITH her husband Miller who died, but WHERE? Or perhaps the widow Elnora migrated with her parents? Other Miller's are found in Sullivan Township of those times; even the marriage between Elnora & JMZ was performed by John G. Miller.

Found in land records - Anson and Ernst Heilman each purchased 40 acres in Sec 5 T8N R16E Jeff County 1846 and 1848

Epitaph on headstone "Endich zur Ruh"

translation something about "concerns are now at rest in the ground"

  Research Notes:

In an LDS IGI record which seems completly off-the-wall, Elnora HEILMAN of Germany b.1823 is shown in a marriage to Michael Zellhoefer, and which shows daughter Lottie (Charlotte) b.1862. Perhaps that serves to refute the untrackable Elnora Haverland of John & Sophia, and might explain the appearance of the Heilman name in Elnora's history.

It may also explain Enora being wrongly names as mother of Annie Heilman, who was finally determined to have been not Heilman, but rather the 2nd child of JMZ and his first wife Anna.

Birth certificates might reveal much, but we have not found Elnora in Germany.

Records of interest found in ship's passenger lists, although it appears Elnora's name at migration-time was MILLER.

  Noted events:

• Census: with JMZ & mixed children, 1860, Sullivan Twp, Jeff Co WI. The surname is very difficult to decipher, but looks most like Seilver. As the known names in this family match what is known from many sources, there is no doubt that this is the JMZ household of 1860.

nothing more. This record may somehow help clear up the confusion of family lore, which stated Elnora had been previously married to Richard Heilman;
that Elnora & Richard had a daughter Annie; and
then Elnora was widowed and married Mueller.

The supposed daughter Annie has been quite conclusively ID'd as not Elnora's, but of Mike Zellhoefer/Anna.

Another marriage certificate of Mike/Elnora's daughter listed Elnora's parents as HAVERLAND, which is apparently accepted by family lore.
