  General Notes:

GGZauto: the last mention of JLZ was when he & Charlotte married and went off to JLZ's farm. It seems there may have been a permanent rift between JLZ and his brother George, which has been seen too often within the family thru later generations.

  Noted events:

• Alt. Birth, 28 Feb 1815, Brachbach, Obernzenn, NEA. the 28 Jan 1815 date is of the Obernzenn church records & would seem the better source

• Immigration: ship Constitution from Bremen, 24 Jun 1844, Port NewYork. Per source GGZ; migration 1843/1844; believed via Port of New York, with his brother Frederick. They had planned to continue on to Wisconsin, and to look for their brother Jacob on the way, but Frederick chose to stay and settle in Newark, NJ, much to the chagrin of Leonhart.
* in 1900 census stated migration was 1844, never became a citizen.

• Residence: Settled, Jul 1844, Sullivan Twp, Jeff Co WI.

• Property: patented 40 acres, 12 Jun 1847, Sullivan Twp, Jeff Co WI. Leonhart patented for $50 on 12 Jul 1847 40 acres, being the SW4, SE4, Sec 17, Sullivan Township, Jefferson County, that being south of Rome, near Sanz's Mill & near the Riverview Cemetery. In that purchase his name was recorded as Leonard Zellhoefer.

If GGZ was correct in his autobiography, after Leonhart married Charlotte they went off to his farm. This would indicate he had purchased/patented other land before this.

• Property: land patent to Leonard TELLHOOFER, 3 Jan 1850, Sullivan Twp, Jeff Co WI. 40 acres NW4 SE4 Sec 12, T6N R15E

• Census: farmer w/family, 1860, Sullivan Twp, Jeff Co WI. Image page 363; name indexed as TELLHOOFER, age 45, gives birthplace as Prussia, but much matches. The actual image surname reads SELLHEIFER.

Johann married Margaretha 'Charlotte' Benz-[1819] [MRIN: 170], daughter of Johann Konrad Benz-[972] and Anna Margaretha Helm-[3106], on 1 Sep 1846 in Rome, Jefferson, WI.1 (Margaretha 'Charlotte' Benz-[1819] was born about 1822 in Kotzenaurach b.Markt Erllbach, NEA,12 died in 1846-1847 in Sullivan Twp, Jeff Co WI and was buried in Riverview East, Rome WI.)

  Marriage Notes:

According to GGZ autobiography, this last group of the Zellhoefer family & the future brides of Leonhart & George arrived in New York in late September 1846. This conflicts with their marriage dates of 1 Sep 1846, which is much more likely to be correct, documentation being found in several sources.

Johann next married Christina Pfeifer-[1546] [MRIN: 233] on 13 Apr 1847 in Milwaukee WI.2 (Christina Pfeifer-[1546] was born on 11 Jun 1826 in Egenhausen, NEA,11 13 died on 10 Sep 1901 in Palmyra, Jefferson, WI 11 and was buried in 1901 in St Luke's cemetery Jefferson WI 11.)

  Marriage Notes:

An IGI record states m.<1840> in Germany, which is incorrect. GGZauto sates he was single at time of migration in 1844, and a record is found of this marriage in Milwaukee, which one might surmise that marriage plans were already made; that Christine came from Bavaria, Leonhart met her in Milwaukee where they were married, and then to Leonhart's home farm near Rome.
