Per the GGZ autobiography, Mother, "Sister3" and "Anna" died of cholera the first winter in WI, 1846-1847 and were among 37 people buried in unmarked graves that winter, the cemetery being an acre outside of Rome and known today as Riverview West. SEE THE RESEARCH NOTES!

By Anna Margareta's marriage record in Obernzenn, her correct parents are Melchoir Hofmann & Anna Sophia Penitsch, and gives her age as 20. Her birthdate is found in LDS IGI as 5 Mar 1784, somewhat conflicting, but names the parents for us. IGI also correctly states Jan 1847 / Wisconsin for her death.

We have now on file the probate papers for Anna Margaretha Hofmann Zellhoefer from Jefferson County, Wisconsin. These give her probable date of death, and further information about the family members who were in Jefferson County at that time. ⁴

• Alt. Birth: name Anna , 12 Jan 1769, Burgfarrnbach, Fuerth, MFR. ⁴ gives parents as Zacharias Hofmann & Katerina Federlein; this is quite surely NOT the right person for wife of Johann Joseph Z.

• Residence: assume at marriage to Joseph's farm @ Brachbach 7, 20 May 1806, Brachbach, Obernzenn, NEA.

• Immigration: ship Telegraph from Bremen, Abt 2 May 1846, Brachbach, Obernzenn, NEA.

• Immigration: ship Telegraph from Bremen, 17 Aug 1846, Port NewYork. Per GGZ voyage took 14 weeks & 3 days.

• Residence, Bef 1 Sep 1846, Rome, Jefferson, WI.

Anna married Johann Joseph Zellhoefer-[9] [MRIN: 452], son of Johann Leonhard Zellhoefer Jr-[8] and Dorothea 'Witch' Winkler-[967], on 20 May 1806 in Obernzenn, NEA.¹ (Johann Joseph Zellhoefer-[9] was born on 28 Nov 1774 in Brachbach, Obernzenn, NEA, christened on 29 Nov 1774 in Obernzenn, NEA and died on 19 Mar 1838 in Brachbach, Obernzenn, NEA.)

  Marriage Notes:

As Buchheim is about 20 km from Brachbach & apparently served by a different church, it's curious just how this couple might have met and gotten together!
