Another name for Margaretha was Bensin, Margaretha "Charlotte."
Research Notes:
This would be the wife called "Charlotte" in GGZ autobiography, which says Charlotte & JLZ were married in a double wedding with GLZ and Charlotte's "friend" "Anna", and the wedding JLZ & Charlotte went off to his farm, and little more was said of them by GGZ.
GGZ stated that GLZ's "Anna" died shortly after in the cholera plague, and after some passage of time that GLZ married Fredericka Tartsch. As Leonhard took wife Christina Pfeifer the following year, one must believe "Charlotte" died then also.
The IGI marriage records, which are certainly more reliable than GGZ, find these marriages, with both brides were surnamed BENSIN.
from Mani Hertlein Dec 2003: Bensin is the wrong name, the right name is Benz with "Z" like Mercedes Benz: "in" is a feminin name like Zellhöferin or Klotzin for a wife. I found a Anna and some brothers but no a Margaretha. The father was a Johann Konrad Benz, blacksmith from Obernzenn, mother was a Anna Margaretha born as a Helm. I looking in the born-records between 1818 to 1833. Perhaps she was born and baptisting outside of Obernzenn So she was in all likelihood a cousin, not a sister, of Anna
Noted events:
• Immigration: from Obernzenn to America, May 1846, Bremen.
• Immigration: Bavaria via Bremen, Aug 1846, Port NewYork. then on to Wisconsin by 1 Sep 1846 where she immediately married Leonhart
Margaretha married Johann Leonhart Zellhoefer-[121] [MRIN: 170], son of Johann Joseph Zellhoefer-[9] and Anna Margaretha Hofmann-[1679], on 1 Sep 1846 in Rome, Jefferson, WI.1 (Johann Leonhart Zellhoefer-[121] was born on 28 Jan 1815 in Brachbach, Obernzenn, NEA, christened on 30 Jan 1815 in Obernzenn, NEA, died on 16 Mar 1901 in Rome, Jefferson, WI and was buried in 1901 in St Luke's cemetery Jefferson WI.)
Marriage Notes:
According to GGZ autobiography, this last group of the Zellhoefer family & the future brides of Leonhart & George arrived in New York in late September 1846. This conflicts with their marriage dates of 1 Sep 1846, which is much more likely to be correct, documentation being found in several sources.
