Selefer, Abram-[2209] 1
- Born: 1797-1798
- Marriage: Elizabeth-[2210] before 1817
Research Notes:
This family was found in 1850 census for Crawford County, PA. The given names do not seem to match well with the usual names for Zellhoefer (Abram, Elias, Isaac, James, & Susannah are rare in the Z's). This may be another mis-spelling of Zellhoefer, but there's not much showing up here to help with possible matches.
So far as we know from research thru 2003, Johann Jacob Zellhoefer (Later Zilhaver) was the first Z known to have migrated to the USA. His migration date is fuzzy, but was certainly by 1840 and probably 1838 or even earlier. This Sehefer family, although living in the same township as Jacob, is difficult or impossible to reconcile with Jacob's, although the wife "Elizabeth" is a match and may hold some key.
Our Jacob was NOT found in the same census, although there is no question he was there and married to Elizabeth and by 1850 had 7 or 8 children.
The surname Selhefer returns no hits in Google, thus almost certainly the surname was incorrectly written. Some variations return a few hits but of no real help.
