John M. Zellhoefer was born at Rome, Wisconsin 28 Jan 1854 and died at LeRoy, Illinois 4 Mar 1914. At the age of 18 he came with his parents to Iowa, settling on a farm near Grand Junction. It became his lot to improve the farm and care for the family while his father busied himself with the duties of a pioneer preacher. He graduated from college at Napierville, Illinois in 1879 and took up his work as a minister in Iowa in 1881........ He leaves 5 children, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He was shot and killed on the streets of LeRoy by Frank Duncan as the culmination of animosities growing out of an anti-saloon fight in that town. Mr. Zellhoefer had been running a successful weekly and had a prominent part in activities against the saloons.

John married Sarah Faber-[2139] [MRIN: 403] on 16 Nov 1881 in IL. (Sarah Faber-[2139] was born in 1858-1859 in IL.)

As he was in college in Illinois and she was from Illinois, assume the marriage was in Illinois. No other source. Marriage date from FGR of Wayne Morris.
