| In 1846, Christine Zellhoefer emigrated from
Ahrnsbach(?) Germany with her mother, a sister, brothers George &
Mike, and two women destined to become Zellhoefer brides.
After a long and arduous voyage, they landed in New York in late
September, and promptly proceeded to Rome, Sullivan Township, Jefferson
County, Wisconsin to rejoin brother Leonhart, arriving before September
1st that year.
On 15 May 1847 she married John Veit Debereiner, a tailor, and soon
they bought a 40-acre farm outside Rome, just past Riverview
Cemetery. Veit continued to tailor while Christine tended the
farm. The farm mailbox still said Debereiner in August, 2000.
I regret not connecting for a short visit on that trip.
A fair number of later people in Wisconsin bearing the Debereiner surname and
have been located in the Social Security Death Index and other sources
on the www. It seems reasonable to assume that many or all of
these can be linked back to Christine & Veit, and much of that is
already completed.
Two children were initially identified and linked; they are
Barbaret, b.1848, and
John M, b. 17 Feb 1859.
We later found several had more children, and that linking work is now
completed.
The source for most of this information, and much more, comes from the
GGGautobiography. You will find
that worthwhile and enjoyable.
